About Desi

Desi Hall is a wellness practitioner, theologian, and consultant dedicated to cultivating holistic wellness among changemakers, with a special focus on movement leaders and marginalized communities. With a unique background in theology and labor research, Desi brings a multidimensional approach to mindfulness, grounding practices, and spiritual resilience—empowering leaders to care deeply for themselves as they work for others.

As the creator and host of “Meditations with Desi,” Desi lives her framework of “making yourself your ministry,” providing free, accessible guided meditations that offer tools for grounding, self-compassion, and spiritual wellness. Her podcast reflects her belief that self-care is not only a personal practice but a profound act of service, empowering those on the frontlines of change.

Desi considers herself a drum major for justice, inspired by a legacy of Black artists, thinkers, and creators such as Nina Simone, James Cone, Howard Thurman, Kayla J. Smith-Hardy, Solange, her Nana, her great-grandfather Reverend J.D. Hunter, and her dear friend Koca. Her work spans the intersections of race, gender, and spirituality, with a focus on wellness frameworks that are accessible, sustainable, and transformative.

A native of Alabama, Desi holds a Master of Theological Studies from Vanderbilt Divinity School and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Birmingham-Southern College, where her work on Womanist Theology and her innovative research has earned her awards and recognition. Her background and experience have equipped her to provide transformative wellness and mindfulness practices that serve as a foundation for changemakers to cultivate resilience.

As the founder of the Frances Thompson Education Foundation, Desi has championed the educational and personal growth of Black transgender students, deepening her insights on resilience and empowerment. Her work has been recognized by the Young Women’s Initiative and Congresswoman Terry Sewell, highlighting her impact on wellness and social justice.

Desi’s voice and expertise offer changemakers the tools to prioritize wellness within their demanding roles. She is available for workshops, consultations, and speaking engagements focused on wellness, education, mindfulness practices, and other topics aimed at creating positive change.
